Review: Shadow Complex

Shadow Complex

I completed Shadow Complex last night, and now I can post my number-oriented review. I promise that I’ll keep this short and sweet. I’d just like to address a few things about my completion. First, I’ll talk about the finale. The final room of this game was actually a bit disappointing. Just a bit. It was a bit anticlimactic. There wasn’t an epic final boss battle, just a bunch of guys that you had to kill and a few buttons you had to push. Also, I decided a few days ago that I just wanted to get through the game, and that I’d go back eventually and get 100% completion.

Shadow Complex Final Scores:

Graphics: 9 / 10

For a downloadable game, it was pretty darn pretty.

Sound: 9 / 10

Great sound effects. Everything had a good “pop.”

Controls: 8 / 10

Very fluid, but aiming took some time to learn.

AI: 8 / 10

Usually consistent, but some occasional hiccups.

Items: 9 / 10

Things to find in nearly every room. Awesome.

Extras: 8 / 10

The challenge packs were nice, but there could’ve been more.

Story: 7 / 10

Started off fine, but closed in super-predictability.

Challenge Level: 9 / 10

Some really tough areas, but never frustratingly so.

Replayability: 10 / 10

I could play this again and again, finding everything there is to find.

Fun Factor: 10 / 10

A complete blast. I loved every minute of it.

FINAL SCORE:

89 %

Shadow Complex is a great game all around. A few issues held it back form being a solid “A” grade, but that shouldn’t turn anyone away from purchasing it. Get the demo in the XBLA Games Marketplace. Try it out. You won’t regret it.
