Review: Alan Wake – The Signal

WARNING: This review contains spoilers.

Alan Wake ended with our hero freeing his wife from the dark place but only in exchange for himself.  “The Signal” picks up right where the main game left off.  Wake is again fighting through Bright Falls, but not quite as you remember it from before.  Just when you think you might have a grip on things, the environment changes.  You’ll go from the diner straight into the darkness of the woods.  The Taken are still there, but now you must fight them alone in this dark place (well… almost alone).

Impressions: The Passing DLC (Left 4 Dead 2)

The newest level in the Left 4 Dead saga is a 3-chapter kill-a-thon entitled The Passing. This level is situated between L4D2′s first two acts, Dead Center and Dark Carnival. If you’re at all familiar with the campaigns, you know that Dead Center ends with our four heroes gallantly omitting themselves from a zombie-infested shopping mall, with the help of a NASCAR-ish stock car. The Passing attempts to create a bridge between the mall and the Dark Carnival levels, with middling success.

Impressions: Kasumi DLC (Mass Effect 2)

Kasumi Mass Effect 2

If you bought Mass Effect 2 new, then you are already familiar with the slew of free DLC via the Cerberus Network that has been released in the relatively short time the game has been out. Most games that even see DLC only get one  or two installments at most, and rarely are they ever free. While the ME2 Cerberus Network DLC has been a little hit or miss, lets be honest: its free. Being such a huge fan of Mass Effect 2, and the first game as well, I was more than happy to shell out a few bucks for the Kasumi DLC pack. Read the full story

Beatles: Rock Band’s ‘Sgt. Pepper’s’ DLC

I for one, was extremely pleased with The Beatles Rock Band, and even more so with the three album selections as DLC. With Abbey Road already available, and Sgt. Pepper’s available today (Rubber Soul is next month), what are your thoughts on the quality level of the Beatles Rock Band DLC so far?

The three albums they picked as DLC are likely the only full albums to be released from the Beatles catalog in my opinion, but I’d like to see some sort of booster pack of additional songs from various albums, as there are still quite a few that I would like to play (Let It Be, Hey Jude, Happiness Is A Warm Gun, etc come to mind). What songs would you like to see in a Beatles DLC track list?

I hardly paid any attention to the pricing model for these song packs, though they did seem to be a bit more expensive than DLC in other Rock Band or GH games. Have you factored pricing into your decision to buy the DLC, or are you just a sucker for anything Beatles related like me?

In the meantime, enjoy this Sgt. Pepper’s video via Joystiq, courtesy of MTV.

Beatles: Rock Band bests Guitar Hero 5 in U.S. Sept. sales

Who called it?

Me.

Beatles Rock Band won by a major margin, 595,000 to 499,000, though I find it pretty unsurprising. We will see how the DLC fares, but “All You Need is Love” already appears to have done quite well at 100,000 downloads.
