The 2009 Game of the Year Countdown: #3
Today we reveal our Number 3 spots on our Top 5 Games of 2009! Have you read and commented on the previous two days? Please do, and also stay tuned for our Number 2 and Number 1 spots Thursday and Friday!
Jeff: Flower

All too often people will overlook downloadable games when making lists like these, but I don’t know how I could live with myself without mentioning the unconventional and charming “Flower” for PSN. The second major release for ThatGameCompany, Flower is a beautifully crafted game, with simplistic yet elegant control that completely justifies Sony’s SixAxis technology, and motion control in general.
I can’t count the number of times I would get home from a long day working only to see the stress melt away in five minutes playing Flower. The game is, in my opinion, the best example of interactive art in a video game, and earns its place as my #3 Game of the Year selection.
Zack: Batman: Arkham Asylum

Arkham Asylum should be placed in the dictionary, being the perfect definition of the phrase, “came out of left field.” This game completely threw me for a loop. I really didn’t have very high of expectations for it, since there really haven’t been many good comic book hero games ever. I didn’t really enjoy the trailers that had been released for the game, because I knew that even if it did look cool, it’d probably still suck.
But look at where Arkham Asylum is now. At my number 3 spot for 2009 Game of the Year. This game is such a complete package. What really makes it so memorable is the world that Rocksteady Studios created. Within the first five minutes of the game, I guarantee you’ll be fully immersed in this new and exciting Batman storyline, and you’ll want to keep playing until the last battle has been fought and the final cutscene has been watched. Do yourself a huge favor and download the demo straight to your Xbox from here. You won’t be disappointed.
