Zack: Borderlands

Borderlands is, simply put, a dream come true. It is a spectacular first-person shooter. It has 17 million weapons. It has unlimited replay value. And it has co-op. I honestly can’t even imagination a more astounding concoction. Borderlands had me hooked from the very first moments, and it still hasn’t let me go. I have played through this diamond in the rough twice now, and have already made solid plans to play through it 3 more times with 3 separate friends. Let’s just say this: If there was a subscription fee to play this game (besides, you know, this) I’d pay it. No questions asked.

I have no real complaints about this game to speak of. All problems that may have arisen just kinda faded away in time. Even with all these fourth quarter games that I have picked up sitting on my shelf (x, y, and z), I still always finding myself returning to the barren wasteland of Gearbox Software’s Borderlands. And that’s why it receives my number 4 spot on my top 5 Games of 2009.

Jeff: Assassin’s Creed 2

Ezio

For the long-winded version of my praise of Assassin’s Creed 2, check out my review. Here, I’ll be brief. Even after beating the game, and getting nearly every significant achievement (something I rarely do), I am already clamoring to play through AC2 again, especially with the two upcoming DLC packs. Though there are many games I’d have liked to play (Batman: AA), and a few that I wish I had avoided altogether (read: Borderlands), the most pleasant surprise of the year was, without a doubt, Assassin’s Creed 2.
